Following the success of their Inclusive Ceilidhs project this year, Okehampton-based not-for-profit organisation Wren Music have announced an all-day event at Exeter Phoenix to share a ‘tool kit’ and to hear from others nationally and internationally.
Inclusive Ceilidhs: Folk Dance Without Barriers is at the Gandy Street venue on Friday 31 October, from 10.30am to 3pm and is for all those interested in celebrating diversity and folk dance.
It’s a chance for people to meet the Wren Music team who’ve delivered the Ceilidhs for All project, including members of the specially created band and the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) support group who’ve used the lessons learned through the project to embed diversity throughout the organisation.
The day will also have presentations from leaders in the inclusive ceilidh movement in England, and an opportunity to hear about developments in social folk dance in both Newfoundland and Latvia. And yes, there’ll also be time for some dancing!
During the day, Wren Music will be showcasing the tool kit for inclusive ceilidhs that they’ve developed over five ceilidhs this summer and autumn, and there’ll be a panel discussion about why they believe this work to be so important.
The event is free to attend but donations are welcomed. A buffet lunch is included.
The Inclusive Ceilidh project is supported by Arts Council England National Lottery Projects, with outreach work supported by The Clare Milne Trust. You can read more about it at Ceilidhs for all – folk dance without barriers | Wren Music.
